Consultations on Cultural Competence and Diversity
Francis Lu, MD, the Luke and Grace Kim Professor in Cultural Psychiatry, Emeritus, and Assistant Dean for Faculty Diversity, Emeritus at UC Davis School of Medicine, will offer consultations on cultural competence and diversity for program development and/or individual career development or a combination of both. Topics for discussion may include cultural competence curriculum for medical students and residents including the use of the DSM-5 Outline for Cultural Formulation and the Cultural Formulation Interview, recruitment and retention of culturally diverse faculty and residents, and establishing cultural diversity infrastructure in a department of psychiatry.
In 2007, the American College of Psychiatrists awarded UC Davis the Creativity in Psychiatric Education Award for their Diversity Advisory Committee in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. In 2010, AADPRT selected two Model Curriculum in Cultural Psychiatry from 13 submissions: UC Davis and NYU. The number of available consultations is limited to first-come, first-served.
The consultations are one-hour sessions, to be scheduled beginning at 6 pm, September 6 through 12 pm, September 9. Dr. Lu will contact registrants to schedule the consultation and to confirm discussion topics.
